Shoreline Restoration Completed at Lake Spokane Recreation Sites

As part of the Spokane River License, shoreline restoration has beenwas completed this past winter at two of Avista’s boat-in-only recreation sites on Lake Spokane including the Muley Canyon and North Shore sites. These popular recreation sites include amenities such as individual docks, picnic tables, fire pits, restrooms, information boards and camping facilities. They are operated and maintained by Washington State Parks and provide boaters with the opportunity to enjoy an overnight stay in a relatively undeveloped remote area, located just upstream of Long Lake Dam.

Shoreline restoration was completed to address heavy recreation use, boat wake and wind fetch which had degraded the site since their initial installation in 2014. Shoreline stabilization measures at Muley Canyon included the installation of log cribbing and 516 native plantings, anchoring driftwood and the establishment of designated water access paths over approximately 400 feet of shoreline. North Shore shoreline treatment measures included the installation of soil lifts along approximately 200 feet of shoreline, placement of large boulders for a terraced effect, 800 native plantings, and new stone steps leading from the dock to the campsite.

All Lake Spokane recreation sites will re-open to the public on May 1, 2025. Boaters can access the sites by launching at the Lake Spokane Campground or the Nine Mile Recreation Area. Washington State Park rules and fee schedule apply, including the Washington State Park Discover Pass.
