    Always On Pilot Program FAQ

    What is a pilot program?

A pilot program is a small, targeted offering used to test a new energy efficiency program design or technology and determine if energy savings within a customer segment is achievable. Pilot programs offer Avista a great opportunity to learn about our customers and what motivates you to participate in our offerings.

What are the objectives of the Always On pilot program?
    • Provide additional value from our smart meters by helping our customers identify the loads present in their home and how best to save energy on those loads.
    • Determine which type of customer interaction results in the highest customer participation and energy savings.
How was I selected for the Always On pilot?

Avista selected the top 1/3 of Always On users in our Washington service territory to participate in this pilot. If you were not selected as part of this group, you will not be able to participate.

How do you know what appliances I am using?

Avista has contracted with Bidgely, an Energy Analytics vendor, to use patented machine learning algorithms to analyze your home’s energy usage data and determine how much energy your major appliances are consuming. This algorithm is commonly called “load disaggregation.”

How is my always on baseline calculated?

Your always on baseline amount is calculated using the average of your last three billing cycles of always on kWh electricity usage as calculated by our Energy Analytics vendor.

Why did I not receive an email update this month?

We were unable to get an accurate always on reading from your electric usage. We have multiple controls in place to double check that the usage analysis we present to you is correct. When one of those controls has failed, your itemized energy consumption for that billing period will not calculate.

    What happens after the pilot?

The pilot program will begin on July 1, 2022 and will continue through December 31, 2022. The length of the pilot is six months. Following the conclusion of the pilot, you will no longer receive monthly email communication or be enrolled in the Always On pilot program. Results of this pilot will be analyzed for potential consideration for future program development.

How do I unsubscribe from this program?

Follow the opt-out link on the bottom of your monthly emails.

What should I do if I have medical equipment?

If you have necessary medical equipment that is on 24 hours a day, please request to opt-out of this program and do not put your health at risk by participating.

Who can I contact for additional information?

For additional information, send us an email or give us a call at (800) 227-9187.
