Home Energy Audit
Small adjustments in every room of your house can make a difference in how much energy it uses.
A home energy audit is the first step toward learning how your home uses energy and can help you prioritize improvement efforts. Home energy audits are comprehensive in-home energy evaluations – like a wellness check for your home. They’re conducted by certified, third-party audit contractors that identify areas of concern and make personalized recommendations to improve the home’s overall efficiency, comfort and health.
Avista’s free Home Energy Audit Program
Avista is now offering qualified homeowners and renters a free home energy audit opportunity.
What to expect during your audit
Auditors will visually inspect your entire home, from crawl space to attic, including appliances and mechanical systems.
This includes a health and safety inspection and an infrared scan to help identify air leaks. With your permission, some energy saving improvements may be installed for you, at no additional cost. These improvements may include the installation of:
- Up to 20 LED light bulbs
- Two (2) water-saving showerheads
- Two (2) low-flow faucet aerators
Upon completion of the audit, you’ll know more about how your home uses and loses energy. You’ll understand how some simple fixes can improve its efficiency and how to approach the implementation of any suggested improvements.
Program eligibility requirements and terms and conditions apply. To protect our customers, employees and contractors, state COVID safety guidelines will be followed, which may delay some home visits associated with this program.
Optional add-on
Avista’s Home Energy Audit and associated improvements are offered to qualified customers at no cost. Participants can elect to have an optional blower door test to further identify air leaks for $100 (electric-only homes) or $150 (all other eligible homes).
Audit qualification
To qualify for this program, you must:
- Be an existing Avista customer
- Live in Washington or Idaho
- Live in an existing single family, duplex, tri-plex or four-plex home
- Own and occupy the home; renters may participate with prior written landlord permission
- Be the Avista account owner for the home receiving the audit
New construction or buildings with more than four units do not qualify for this program. Multifamily homes heated by a shared heating system, or that aren’t separately metered, are ineligible.
